Receiving advice when you never asked for it can be unwelcome and uncomfortable for a number of reasons (including but not limited to): the judgment and implied criticism, the assumption that someone else knows what is best for you, and just simply because you didn’t ask for their opinion. Responding to unsolicited advice can be tricky – shutting it down too aggressively can potentially damage your relationship, but being too receptive may invite even more judgment.
