Policy for Working with Corporate Partners

Rethink Breast Cancer’s mission is to empower young people worldwide who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer.  By taking a breakthrough approach to all aspects of breast cancer – education, resources, advocacy, and community building – Rethink is thinking differently about breast cancer. The work we do is always driven by patients’ needs and values and vetted by our Scientific Advisory Council.

Financial contributions that support our work we come from a mix of sources, including special events, private donors, and unrestricted funding from industry and non-industry organizations.  However, as a credible, patient-focused organization, it is imperative that we protect and uphold our integrity, credibility and commitment to support women living with breast cancer.

Guiding Principles

The following statements are intended to minimize the impact of real, potential or perceived conflict of interest that may arise from any financial support from corporations and ensure that all activities are independent of commercial interests.

Patient interest

All activities keep the interests, needs and values of patients at the forefront.

Independence

Rethink will maintain its organizational independence and ensure that no corporation or partnership influences its strategic direction, activities, messages or content. Rethink will remain impartial to any product and will not give preference to any one company.

Scientific integrity

Rethink is committed to sharing high-quality, accurate and balanced information about breast cancer that has been vetted by members of our Scientific Advisory Council.

Transparency

Rethink will maintain an open and transparent relationship with all commercial partners, in a manner that will withstand public scrutiny. A corporation’s support will be acknowledged in an appropriate way following discussions with the corporation.
