John Tobin (Chair)
John Tobin is a partner of Torys LLP. John has a generalist tax practice advising businesses, not-for-profits, governments and pension funds on Canadian legal and tax matters relating to their activities at home and abroad. John has advised on public private partnerships, infrastructure development and project finance including for roads, schools and hospitals. John has advised regarding tax issues relating to financial institutions, securitizations, the auto finance sector and managed assets businesses. He brings a broad legal knowledge in solving problems. He serves on several board and industry committees. John also served on a CICA task force regarding accounting guidelines. John is repeatedly recognized as a leading tax and structured finance lawyer in Canada. John is on the board of directors for the Michael Garron Hospital (formerly the Toronto East General Hospital) and chairs its Redevelopment Committee.
Alex was Partner & Chief Creative Officer of Oxygen Design Agency for 17 years before starting a residential renovation company, ModernKind Inc, for which she leads the design and runs the operation with her brother. She was also a founder in the weekend travel company, Weekendtrips.com. Alex has been involved with Rethink almost from its inception, having designed its early website and contributed creative and direction to many Rethink marketing initiatives, campaigns and fundraising events over the last 13 years. Alex has been on the Rethink Board for 5 years and enjoys challenging Rethink to remain entrepreneurial and forward-thinking in all its endeavours.

Dr. Christine Brezden-Masley is a medical oncologist, Division Head of Hematology-Oncology at St. Michael’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She treats both Breast and GI cancers (colorectal and gastric) and focuses her research in these areas as well. She is active in research, education, and has been instrumental in the clinical development of the cancer program at St. Michael’s Hospital. She is also the founder of the COMET (Community Oncologists of Metropolitan Toronto) Clinical Trials Consortium, a user friendly patient referral network promoting cancer clinical trials throughout the Toronto Region.
Debbie Drutz is the VP of Client Strategy at Bell Media Sales – focused on business opportunities for prioritized clients with an emphasis on helping clients achieve their long-term business goals within the Automotive, Consumer Packaged Goods, Retail, Food and Drink, and Finance categories.
Drutz holds a Statistical Science Degree from the University of Western Ontario and prior to joining Bell Media worked for Astral OOH (Director, Media Markets & Innovation, Creative Production), Astral Media Radio (Director, Interactive Products), CHUM Radio Sales and Rogers Media (Director, Emerging Platforms and Digital Sales) – where she launched the first video on-demand online platform and the first of many catch up video applications.
She’s also the Manager of her son’s Select Hockey Team, is at the dance studio with her daughter every weekend, and enjoys early am workouts and spending time with her family.
As senior brand manager of digital campaigns, Karen Kelar leads digital product acceleration across all of Rogers Media Consumer Publishing brands, including Texture by Next Issue. After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Western Ontario, Karen launched her career in sales and marketing at the Canadian division of WME/IMG—the global leader in sports, events, media and fashion. It was during this time that Karen negotiated Paulina Gretzky’s first ever FLARE cover, which remains one of the brand’s best-selling newsstand issues. Karen joined Rogers in 2006 and has served both as group marketing director overseeing Chatelaine, FLARE, HELLO! Canada, Today’s Parent, Cosmetics and Cosmétiques as well as director of advertising for Glow and Pure. In 2015, she assumed her current role. In her spare time, Karen likes to ponder her next travel adventure; share fabulous food and wine photos on Instagram and enjoy family time at the cottage—she is a proud hands-on auntie of three.
