Treatment: 6 rounds of chemo, 28 days radiation, 5 years hormone therapy
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that has nothing to do with cancer: I love gardening, and exploring the great outdoors.
What’s your go-to pick-me-up song? Lookin Up – Barenaked Ladies Soggy Bottem Summer – Dean Brody How did you discover your breast cancer? I went in to my family physician for a routine pre natal appointment. I unfortunately had be told by another doctor a year before that it was just a plugged milk duct and not to worry.
What went through your head when you received your diagnoses? What the %$#@ do I do now? You’re wrong. I can’t have cancer, I’m having a baby…
What’s the craziest thing someone said to you after being diagnosed with breast cancer? “My sisters friend got diagnosed with breast cancer while she was pregnant, she had twins and died 3 weeks later.”
Who or what is/was your biggest source of support throughout your experience with cancer? Friends and family, being able to share with others.
What is/was the most difficult part of being a young woman with breast cancer? Having a two year old that needs me and not being able to grow my family.
What’s something unexpected you learned about yourself as a result of having breast cancer? I’m a lot stronger than I thought, great at multi-tasking.
In one sentence, what words of wisdom would you pass on to another young woman who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer? Breathe, take it one day at a time. Find the humour and laugh everyday.
