National Needs Assessment for Young Women with Breast Cancer

Member of this crappy club? We’re listening.

Over ten years ago, Rethink Breast Cancer launched a full-scale National Needs Assessment for Young Women with Breast Cancer. Our goal was to look at the whole experience and better understanding the gaps in support and care in Canada. It was an extensive effort that provided benchmarks for healthcare workers, government and community organizations to inform and measure their impact, along with our own. Read the full report here.

Our 2025 Needs Assessment

A lot has changed since then, and it is time to re-assess the needs of women with early-stage breast cancer to inform our work and make sure it stays current and relevant.

We want to hear from you! By hearing from as many people as possible, our assessment will reflect the needs and gaps across the country, understanding each person with breast cancer is unique, including their intersectional identity and social determinants of health.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Diagnosed stage 0, stage 1, stage 2 or stage 3 breast cancer between 2018 and now,
  • XX biological sex,
  • Over 20 years old,
  • AND living in Canada

FAQ

How long will the research survey take?

The research survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Is the research survey anonymous?

Yes, the research survey is anonymous and confidential.

Is the research survey online only?

Yes, the research survey is only available to be completed online via the survey platform linked here.

Is there compensation for involvement?

For every 10 responses, one person will win a Rethink Gift Package! Please note, in order to be entered into the draw, we ask that you leave us your email address so we can get in contact with you if you win.

Is the research survey only for women of a certain age? Am I too old?

We encourage anyone who meets the eligibility criteria to complete the research survey. This includes anyone over the age of 20 who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Will you be doing a needs assessment focused on metastatic breast cancer?

Rethink will be doing a separate stage 4/metastatic breast cancer needs assessment following this one. While we work to unite those with early-stage and metastatic breast cancer, we understand people living with MBC have unique needs and want to intentionally focus on this in a separate needs assessment.

Why is this needs assessment only for cis-gender women?

We have a limited capacity to reassess the needs of cis-gender women. Our original needs assessment was for cis-gender women and in order to be able to do an accurate comparison, we will be reassessing for cis-gender women for this needs assessment.

Thank you so much for helping us rethink breast cancer for young women.
